snap my picture!!!
anyone been watching utv world movies? there are certain things about it that bug me to no end… conceptually, it’s a good idea. international films, 24 hours a day. with a bit of hollywood thrown in.
but really, 6 movies a day, including repeats? and a name that’s a rip off of two rival channels? and unnecessary censoring? and english subtitles on english films? and incorrect ones, at that?
i was watching scary movie 2 the other night, and there’s this one bit that’s a spoof on charlie’s angels. you know the bit with the prodigy’s smack my bitch up. that’s right… censored lyrical subtitles: snap my picture!
high strung
when i was a kid, back in cochin, there was this video library which had the vaguest of films, stuff that had no chance in hell of ever becoming famous. and if they did, they’d be cult films. that’s how i got to see stuff like freaked, stay tuned, brain donors, jerky boys, and other arbit stuff…
and another one, high strung. i took it because the cover said “jim carrey in his funniest role ever.” that wasn’t quite the case, as carrey’s in the film for just a lttle over two minutes. but steve oedekerk made up for that quite well, thank you. it’s a movie about one pissed off guy’s life, and how he wishes he’d rather be dead. it’s 90 minutes of ranting and raving, a guy sitting at home and talking into the camera. not quite the movie for an impressionable 12 year old to see. i finally managed to get a copy of it (aye aye, bittorrent). fifteen years later, it’s still funny. and scarily, i see a bit of myself in him. (or is it the other way around?)
not the perfect movie for everyone, but if anyon’e interested in getting a copy of it, drop by. i’m not getting out of the house. now downloading: kung pow.
